1. Do not make Proposition Bets
These are bets determined on a single dice roll, with the House Edge being much too high. The Any Craps Bet alone holds a House Edge of over 11%.
2. Do not make Lay Bets
The 5% commission, or vig, and low odds placed on these bets is not a favorable offer on the casinos part. If you insist on making Lay Bets, the only way you will maximize your winnings is by betting in set amounts. Since the casino will usually charge a 5% commission for every $20 wagered, it is advisable to bet in exact denominations. This insures a winning return without giving the casino an opportunity to round down on earnings. If you have the necessary bankroll and still insist on making lay bets, only do so by putting $40 multiples on the 4 and 10, $30 multiples on the 5 and 9, and $24 denominations on the 6 and 8.
3. Make Buy Bets Sparingly
These bets also have a 5% commission, but return higher odds than lay bets. They can even lower the House Edge more than Place Bets. Even so, it is still advisable to stay clear from making Buy Bets at all. If after some time you grow more comfortable with the table and desire to mix up your bets a bit, only make buy bets on the 4 or 10, for these two are the only numbers on a buy bet that produce highest odds in the players favor (2:1) The five and nine produce 3:2 odds, and the six and eight produce 6:5 odds. Since casinos usually charge their 5% commission on every $20 wagered (meaning a $5 bet and a $20 bet both have a $1 commission charge, just as a $22 bet and a $39 bet both have a $2 commission), if you must make a buy bet, do so in multiples of $20 in order to maximize return.
4. Make Field Bets Sparingly
Although the House Edge is lower for these bets (5.5%) than many of the other bets, field bets are determined on a single dice roll, which is more of a risk than extended bets. However, they make good bets to mix things up, or when you have a hunch that a shooter will roll a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12.
5. Make Place Bets in Multiple Denominations
In order to take full payoff odds on a place bet, you will need to bet in specific multiple denominations. The 4, 5, 9 and 10 should be wagered with multiples of $5, while the 6 and 8 should be wagered with multiples of $6. Any other amounts will produce uneven amounts, which the casino will round down to make an even payoff amount. An additional tip to making place bets is this: Only make place bets on the 6 and 8. These numbers return a House Edge near 1.5%, whereas the 5 and 9 produce a 4% House Edge and the 4 and 10 produce a House Edge nearing 7%.
Of the rest of the Craps bets - Pass, Don`t Pass, Come, Don`t Come, and Free Odds Wagers - the Pass Line Bets are considered the most user-friendly, although all four of them offer low House Advantages. It is in conjunction with these bets that the lowest House Advantage of any game in the online casino can be obtained. It is done with the Free Odds Wager, hence the last and most important craps strategy tip:
6. Always Make a Free Odds Wager When Given the Chance
A Free Odds Wager is essentially an additional wager made on top of an already existing pass, don`t pass, come, or don`t come bet. What gives this bet such a great return is that it pays off True Odds, rather than House Odds. The casino does not make any money off of a winning Free Odds Bet like it does from a winning pass line bet. The reason the casino allows it in the first place is because it is already making money off of the original bet, hence why a free odds wager must be made in conjunction with another wager. None the less, this wager brings down the House Edge from near 1.5% to approximately .8%. In order to maximize full return on payouts, it is advised to wager in increments, depending on the point established. For a 4 or 10, wager increments do not matter, for these numbers pay off 2 to 1 odds. However, for point numbers of 5 and 9, it is wise to make a free odds wager in an even amount. If your point number is a 6 or 8, wager in $5 increments in order to be paid out evenly, rather than being rounded down by the dealer. The reason is that the True Odds only applies to $5 increments.
